Harriet has a common law practice across Chambers’ main practice areas.

This enables her to properly advise clients who may face proceedings in multiple areas.

She successfully completed her pupillage in September 2024 under the supervision of Conor Quinn.

Aside from being in court, Harriet mentors several aspiring barristers and has spoken at events about pursuing a career at the Bar.

Harriet appears in the Magistrates Court and Crown Court, prosecuting and defending at all stages, including first appearances, PTPH, application hearings, trials and sentencing.

She undertakes Youth Court work after completing the ICCA Children’s Advocacy Course and has experience in cases involving youths.

She has been instructed in a range of cases from domestic violence, sexual offences, theft offences, driving offences and violent offences.

She has been successful in defending every domestic violence case that has run to trial.

She often handles cases with expert evidence and expert witnesses in varying fields of expertise.

She receives positive feedback on her ability to deal with vulnerable defendants and witnesses.

Recent cases:

R v MH - Harriet represented the Defendant in a harassment charge following a neighbourly dispute. Upon entering a successful basis of plea being entered, Harriet successfully mitigated such that the client was given a conditional discharge.

R v AH - Harriet successfully represented the Defendant for multi domestic abuse-related charges to trial. She dealt with a res gestae application and was successful in opposing a bad character application. The Defendant was acquitted.

R v MJ - Harriet prosecuted a voyeurism trial resolving around an analysis of the meaning of “observation” within section 67 Sexual Offences Act 2003. The Judge agreed with Harriet’s determination of what “observation” meant.

R v WG - Harriet represented a very vulnerable Defendant through proceedings, resulting in a suspended sentence order for 3 violent offences.

R v MR - Harriet represented a Defendant facing a charge of joint enterprise s18 assault. Harriet successfully negotiated with the prosecutor to secure the Defendant a conviction for affray, leading to the Defendant being sentenced to a suspended sentence order.

R v PB - Harriet prosecuted a driving matter dealing with extensive arguments of disclosure issues raised on the day of trial.

Practice Summary

Harriet had a good civil background prior to starting pupillage.

She had worked as a county court advocate with LPC Law, dealing with road traffic trials, contract disputes, infant settlements, parking fines, interim applications, dispute resolution hearings and housing matters.

Harriet was also a pro bono case worker for Leeds Free Legal Representation. She appeared in the Employment Tribunal regularly on multi-day trials for Claimants on multi-headed cases. Harriet obtained compensation for all of her sole clients.

Harriet has since appeared in the County Court on road traffic trials, credit hire, contract disputes, noise-induced hearing loss hearings, personal injury cases, and dispute resolution hearings both for the Claimant and Defendant.

Recent cases:

Re SM - Harriet successfully represented the Claimant in a low-velocity impact fast-track trial. She was able to identify evidence in the bundle that was not put to the Claimant in cross-examination to persuade the Judge that the Claimant was not dishonest in his claim.

Re CH - Harriet successfully represented a Claimant in a Stage 3 hearing for noise-induced hearing loss. She referred to the analysis of the expert audiologist using different Guidelines for the Grading of Tinnitus.

Re JS - Harriet conducted a hearing on dealing with an analysis of section 151 Road Traffic Act 1988 following default judgment being entered.

Practice Summary

Harriet acts on behalf of police forces across the country in various civil applications.

She has been instructed on Sexual Risk Orders, Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Cash Forfeiture Orders, Closure Orders and Account Freezing Orders.

She has undertaken advice work for the police on complex quantum issues.

Harriet also represents the police in civil trials in the County Court, both as the Claimant and Defendant in small claims and fast track trials.

Harriet has further represented the police in family proceedings relating to disclosure.

Harriet has appeared on behalf of the Guardian in a delicate 3-day final hearing.
