Jury reach a conclusion of “lawful killing” in the inquest into the death of Yassar Yaqub. Olivia Checa-Dover acted for West Yorkshire Police.

On 2 January 2017, Yassar Yaqub was fatally shot by a West Yorkshire Police firearms officer. On 2 November 2022, the inquest into Mr. Yaqub’s death concluded with the jury finding that:

“From the evidence produced and reviewed, [the police firearms officer] honestly believed that a firearm was being aimed at him. His life was in danger, and he used reasonable force discharging his firearm.”

The conclusion was one of lawful killing.
