Olivia Checa-Dover presents police misconduct case involving the sexual assault of a vulnerable woman.

27 January 2023

Miss A met Officer J in 2004 when she was the victim of crime. Officer J became the officer in charge of her case and, upon the criminal investigation concluding, commenced what he described to be a consensual sexual relationship with her. Miss A recalled their interaction very differently and alleged that Officer J had in fact sexually assaulted her.

In 2021, Miss A reported her allegations to the police leading to a police misconduct investigation and, ultimately, a five-day hearing in Newcastle ending on 27 January 2023. The Misconduct Panel found all three allegations proved and dismissed the officer without notice.
