Between 17th and 20th November 2025 – Richard Barradell successfully defended Rachel Hale on the charge of the attempted murder of PC Cheryl Beaumont. Miss Hale had recently been released from suite 136 under the Mental Health Provisions. She was very quickly in a state of crisis when she was found walking in the live lane of traffic at just after midnight on 16th May 2025. Concerned police stopped to help and whilst speaking with Miss Hale in order to assist, she tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a bus. Her momentum took PC Beaumont with her and only the officers speed, strength and skill stopped both from going under the bus and near certain death. Hale was charged with attempted murder/alternatively attempt section 18 grievous bodily harm – she was acquitted of both charges by her jury in under one hour. Her Honour Judge Sarah Wright (presiding over the trial) – praised PC Beaumont and pointed out that she saved the life of a vulnerable citizen who was in such crisis as to have made a serious attempt to commit suicide.
