Family

KBW is home to a strong and talented family team who practice exclusively in public and private children law cases, both domestic and international. The team are experienced in cases of the highest complexity and sensitivity, regularly appearing in the High Court and also appearing before the Court of Appeal. The Legal 500 notes that “KBW’s care work includes cases involving factitious illness and serious non-accidental physical harm. The set is also recommended for matters at the interface between family law and immigration, including forced marriages and children cases involving removals from the jurisdiction, which are another core area of expertise.” Indeed in the recent past members have appeared in cases involving radicalisation, international transfers of proceedings, complex disputes regarding jurisdiction and placements abroad, abduction, inter familial non-recent sexual abuse involving evidence from vulnerable parties, inflicted serious injury to infants and fabricated or induced illness.

The team represent parents, children, local authorities and all those involved in the lives of children with whose welfare the court is concerned. The set’s background of advocacy in the criminal courts provides the skilled team with an edge in court and further assists with matters where there are ongoing criminal proceedings. The team also includes barristers with specific experience in adult care, including Court of Protection work.

The team has a decent spread of barristers including Queen’s Counsel, Counsel over 10 years call and notably a seemingly endless raft of high quality juniors coming through. The team prides itself on its approachability and commitment to clients and instructing solicitors alike right from a first enquiry through to final resolution.
