100 Years of Women in Law – 18th December 2022

18 December 2022

The 18th of December 2022 officially marked 100 years since the first woman, Carrie Morrison was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.

After gaining her degree, Morrison and three other women (Maud Crofts, Mary Pickup and Mary Sykes) successfully passed their Law Society exams. Carrie Morrison was the first of the four to be admitted at the age of 34.

The First 100 Years is a project supported by the Law Society, the Bar Council and CILEx. It has been powered by the registered charity, Spark21 with a mission to celebrate, inform, and inspire future generations of women. The project has committed to harness the power of gender equality and transform the business of law.

We are delighted for June Venters KC who has been included in the Society’s top 100 women solicitors as part of these celebrations.
At KBW Chambers we are proud to have a total of 16 female barristers and 6 female clerks in our team.
