Specialises in the prosecution of rape, serious sexual offences and homicide. Has been a Grade 4 Prosecutor for 12 years. Extensively instructed in cases involving vulnerable rape victims, both current and historic. Several recent cases have involved the use of drugs to stupefy victims, reliance upon the evidence of psycho-pharmacologists and the interpretation of s.75 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Has recently appeared as Leading Junior for the Prosecution in several lengthy manslaughter trials.

Is regularly instructed to advise the Prosecution pre-charge upon the sufficiency of evidence in serious criminal cases, upon issues of public interest immunity and to represent the Crown in the Divisional Court.

Notable Cases

R -v- Garbutt. Contested murder trial. Postmaster kills wife and claims she was murdered during a robbery.

R -v- Bickford. Contested domestic manslaughter trial. Outcome depended upon conflicting expert evidence of neuro-pathologists. Prosecution of trial and appeal conviction in the Court of Appeal.

R -v- Parkin. Contested attempted murder trial. Father poisoning baby and blaming the child’s mother. Sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.

R -v- Bellwood. Contested rape trial. Rape of vulnerable 17 year old pregnant victim with learning difficulties. Sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

R -v- Duggan & others. Contested multi-hander rape of 15 year old drugged with mephadrone
