Areas of Practice

Crime

Prosecutes and defends in the Crown Court. Recent cases include prosecuting offences of wounding with intent, child abduction, making indecent images, sexual assault, drugs supply and aggravated burglary and defending cases of wounding with intent, sexual assault, possession of firearms, drugs importation and fraud.

Prosecution junior, led by Nicholas Campbell Q.C., in R v Davey, a case involving the alleged rape of a young woman with Down's Syndrome and by Adrian Waterman Q.C. advising on a potential manslaughter prosecution.

Has also been led by Tina Dempster (prosecuting a lorry hijacking involving complex cell site telephone evidence) Paul Cleasby (defending in a large scale drugs conspiracy) and Sarah Mallett (defending in a fraud case with an international dimension.)

Has appeared before the Court of Appeal Criminal Division both alone and being led by Andrew Robertson Q.C. in R v Fulton, a case involving the CCRC.

Has also appeared before the Administrative Court in judicial review proceedings connected with a high-profile criminal prosecution.

Has undergone training in prosecuting serious sexual offences and in the use of intermediaries to assist vulnerable witnesses and is a grade 3 Crown Prosecutor.

Civil

Has acted for West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Northumbria and South Yorkshire police forces in misfeasance actions, claims under the Police Property Act, licensing hearings, firearms appeals and at coroners' inquests.

Has extensive experience of conducting applications for Closure Orders, Sexual Offences Prevention Orders and Football Banning Orders. Also has extensive experience of making cash forfeiture applications under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, both at first instance and on appeal, and has recently presented a programme of seminars for officers and staff from a number of Financial Investigation Units and Force Solicitors Offices.
