Becky’s practice encompasses a strong balance of both crime and family work. In crime, she both prosecutes and defend. Becky is a Grade 2 prosecutor.

In family, Becky acts for professionals and parents and grandparents and in both private and public law contexts.

Practice Summary

Becky enjoys a well-balanced Crown Court practice, where she both prosecutes and defends. Becky receives instructions in relation to a wide spectrum of serious offences, including sexual, violent and drug offences. Becky is experienced in dealing with cases which involve vulnerable witnesses, voluminous amounts of disclosure material and forensic and expert evidence.

With both lay and professional clients, Becky has an approachable manner, whilst still delivering clear and robust advice.


Notable Cases

R v A et al. (2023): Secured the only acquittal in a multi-handed conspiracy to pervert the course of justice trial heard at Hull Crown Court lasting two weeks. The case involved careful and thorough analysis of prison phone call recordings and transcripts. Becky’s lay client was a law graduate and aspiring solicitor. 

R v K (2023):
Defended a severely-autistic Defendant charged with assaulting a police officer. Through obtaining expert evidence on how the Defendant’s autism affected her, which provided an important context to the incident - and setting out why the Crown should review the case on public interest grounds, the Crown offered no evidence.

R v E (2022): Defended in a multi-handed trial involving kidnapping, blackmail and possession of imitation firearm with intent. The case featured extensive CCTV footage and telephone material.

R v C et al. (2022): Led by Rupert Doswell prosecuting in a multi-handed and multi-week Class A and B drugs conspiracy trial in Hull Crown Court in which all Defendants were convicted. The case involved international payments to Colombia and vast amounts of surveillance, telephone data and expert drugs evidence.

R v T et al. (2021): Led by Rebecca Stevens defending a conspiracy to commit robbery, during which, one of the alleged conspiring robbers was killed. Vast amounts of telephone data and CCTV footage was involved.

R v K et al. (2021): Led by Matthew Bean prosecuting an eight-handed Class A and B drugs conspiracy involving Class A and B drugs.

R v S (2019): Successfully defended in a two-count possession of firearm trial.

R v M (2018): Successfully defended in two-count sexual assault matter.

R v W (2018): Defended in dwelling house burglary trial which raised issues as to civilian identifications via Facebook and the absence of PACE Code D safeguards. Defendant acquitted.

Practice Summary

Becky’s family practice includes both public and private law proceedings. She is regularly instructed by local authorities, parents and Children’s Guardians in care proceedings and by parents in private law children proceedings.

Notable cases:

Re B (2023): Acted for the Local Authority in a sensitive case involving a vulnerable teenage mother, whose baby was subject of a Care and Placement Order application. The case involved competing expert evidence between the consultant psychologist and the residential unit at which the mother resided.

Re H-G (2021): Led by Manisha Marwaha in a finding-of-fact hearing concerning fabricated and induced illness. The evidence was voluminous and saw approximately 20 professional witnesses being required to give evidence.

Re DD [2021] EWCA Civ 36: Acted for the mother in the Court of Appeal in which the first instance judge’s decision to sanction interim removal had been appealed.

Re L (2020): Acted for a Hungarian-Roma mother in a lengthy contested interim removal hearing in which the importance of cultural differences was acknowledged and in which removal was successfully resisted.

Re B (2020): Acted for the mother acting by her Litigation Friend, the Official Solicitor at final hearing. Identified significant deficiencies in the local authority’s assessment process and the support which had been offered which resulted in the court adjourning proceedings for the instruction of an ISW.

Re Y (2019): Represented the local authority in protracted public law proceedings involving allegations of domestic and honour-based violence, in which section 91(14) and section 34(4) orders were successfully made.

Re S (2019): Represented the local authority in a case involving parental selective mutism.

Re H (2018): Represented the local authority in a composite hearing concerning non-accidental injury and failure to supervise alleged against both parents. Findings sought as pleaded.

Re A (2017): Represented the mother in a contested non-molestation order hearing in which mother’s allegations of rape and sexual assault as against the respondent father were all found proven.

Practice Summary

Becky is instructed by the police in relation to applications for Gang Injunctions, Forced Marriage Protection Orders, Female Genital Mutilation Protection Orders, Closure Orders, and Domestic Violence Protection Orders.
