Rupert Doswell secures conviction in Timothy Dowd case

25 January 2019

The former director of Coronation Street Timothy Dowd has been found guilty of child sex offences after a three day trial at Leeds Crown Court. Rupert Doswell prosecuted the case, in which the Defendant claimed that he believed that the person with whom he was communicating on Lycos Chat and WhatsApp was an adult roleplaying as a 13 year old girl. The police officer who had posed as “Chantelle” gave evidence anonymously, and explained that she was able to pose as a 13 year old despite the age restrictions on Lycos Chat.
